ELOS - PORTALEGRE

WELCOME TO TEACHERS
ELOS PROJECT

Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to Portalegre, to S.Lourenço School, to Northern eastern Alentejo, a magic space in this country of sailor men.
As you know, Portugal has been a country of discoveries, of brave men and poets. Today, after having lost our great conquests, we are still a country of courage and poetry.
For us, “the face of Europe”, according to the great Fernando Pessoa, living is a constant challenge and the desire of innovating and of going forward never abandons us.
So, in 1986 we joined the European Union and the European Club Project began in our school. Our purpose was to conquer Europe, better saying, to become actually Europeans, in the best the old continent can offer us.
It has been a long way and the Elos Project is undoubtedly one more stage of that way. We want to be partners! We want to share our dreams!
It’s an immense pleasure to receive you in our city, in our school and, I must say a great hope… We believe we are beginning a long partnership. For us Elos is another door to Europe and we won’t let it close!
Because time runs (The ancient Greece Chronos is never satisfied) and two days won’t be enough to know our city and our European Club well, we have images to show you.
The images are followed by words in Portuguese, because we want a Europe that preserves our identity and because José Régio’s poetry, as any other, is not likely to be easily translated into any language. This poet lived in Portalegre and was a teacher as well.
We hope you like the images that you feel the energy of our youth in action who illustrates and stands for the presented spaces.
Next we will still show you, very briefly, some activities we have accomplished during the 2005/06 school year in the European Club.
Luis de Camões, the poet of Portugal, used to say that “it’s better try it than judge it”. So do we…
Welcome then! We hope you enjoy our city, that you feel well while working in our school and that you feel like coming back with your students.
We hope you all have a good stay!
Let’s visit Portalegre! (Power Point presentation)

(After de images)

And now, before the coffee break and before we let you go and work in the Elos Project, we are still going to show our Eurotugas. (EUROTUGAS!!)

At the end:
Tea, coffee, a cake! Let’s have a break now before you start working.

O Projecto está a andar, acelerado!, e as expectativas são imensas... Estudar numa escola na Noruega, ou em Inglaterra, ou na Lituânia, ou mesmo na Polónia, é um desafio a não perder! Contamos com todos!
